The dynamic Groups in SLX are, as we all know, a major part of the workplace and provide excellent business views using an endless myriad of criteria.
I would love to see a version whereby Contacts/Accounts etc do not have to be the basis for these groups and instead of just the 'View SQL' one could actually WRITE SQL to create a group.
For instance, Products are always requiring queries and, although views / grids etc can be built, it would be very handy to merely have ANY query available to the standard 'Groups' views.

And, just while i'm here, i'd ike to say thanks to all who contribute here - it's the 'Google of my SLX world' ! Keep up the good work Ryan (when do you have the time to do your actual job and sleep?!)

Not a bad idea at all......obviously any MainView form can have a set of groups for it.....and you can build a PRODUCT mainview (we do).....

but we need more control over groups:
1. normal Lookups need to be able to create temporary groups (went away in 6.x)

2. Need the ability to populate an already created group and jump to it (create temporary group works based on conditions that populate the Latest Account formatted group, etc. If I specify some conditionS and a Group name that should be sufficient.

3. Need to ability to create a group on the fly.....even make it permanent and shared...... if I have a Group based on Territory 9.....why can't I build 10-100 on the fly, iterating the Condition.....share it with the correct Teams/Everyone....

4. Need Groups of Groups and ability to share/hide them.....

etc.

"Google for SalesLogix". hehe. I think the site is great too, but it's not just me. This is a community effort, and a great one at that. I just provided the place.

Hi Ryan, Indeed, 'tis the collective that makes it!

On a further note / wish regarding SLX, was also thinking that it would be very handy to be able to retain columns on the left of a datagrid in the same way that Excel allows to Freeze Panes so that when one has a large amount of columns in the grid, the leftmost x could be frozen...

...this Wishlist - does this get fed back somehow to Sage/SLX Developers ???

Hey Mark,

I personally know that some of the Sage SalesLogix developers look at this site from time to time. So I would say yes the feedback does get back into Sage. I really like your group builder idea, interesting if it was pared with grids anywhere (programmatically enabled) where the user could taylor their view specific to their needs. This would not work for the grids that are programmitically created, but for the basic binding grids it souunds like a real usability enhancement.

Regards

Not to be contrary to Mark's claim that Sage development staff reads the posts on this site but no, this feedback does not get back to Sage. This is not an official Sage wishlist/feature request/defect submittal/etc. channel. If you want something to go through the proper channel you must contact Sage directly.

This is a great site and SalesLogix has a great community. I am just commenting that the Sage developers have a real job, building SalesLogix, and if you want something to enter their queue officially, then you should enter your request officially.

Here is an article about defect tracking that may shed some light on my stance

Also, (sorry to down this even more). But I have emails back to 1998 that asked for this feature and it's not made it - I fully expect not to see it either ! Sorry !

Tim, no worries. Looking at and reacting to are 2 seperate things. I was curious on the 'have real jobs' item it kinda came across a little rough. Do we all not have real jobs? Generally the developers do not determine what features go into a product (there are exceptions to this rule). Sage has a very layerd approach of Product Managers, Project Managers, Program Managers, Architects, Developers and so on. So as you said the best bet to get it to the right ear is though Sage and more then likely Allen Duet. However as Mike also mentioned just requesting does not mean getting. This is the same with every development company, there is a need to ensure that the seperation of concerns between the next release and all of the defined features, bug fixes, training and so forth can be matched with the respective return on investment. Also looking at the usage scenarios, how many customers benifit from it, will the feature increase demand. When we were building the mobile platform listing to the customer was the first thing we did, reason was that with a small company there is only a small percentage of the usage scenarios that could be indentified.

My apologies for coming across rough. I definitely didn't mean to be nasty, hence the "not to be contrary" comment.
