When quoting things like connection strings, coincident semi-colons and brackets are translated to smileys - makes the whole thing a bit off-putting, tbh.
I had expected that use of the PRE and /PRE tags would disable the conversion, but it does not.
Is there any way of avoiding the auto smiley conversion? If not, perhaps the PRE and /PRE tags could be enhanced to avoid it?

Hi Phil,
First let me say, I completely LOVE the new photo/avatar.
Second, not at the moment, but that is one of many changes on the way. The whole code formatting thing need some drastic improvements at the moment, and those changes are underway, albeit slowly. The whole site is getting a makeover at the moment, but all this stupid "work" keeps getting in the way  <- intentional smiley, hehe.
Anyway, if you can put up with it for the time being, I know you'll be happy with the changes that are coming.

Thanks Ryan - yeah, it was one of those perfect moments: the lighting, the mood - took years off me
I notice that you have forsaken the Jack Bauer look in your avatar photo - a step backwards, IMO 
I'm sure the new site will be great. I was pretty happy with this one! Smileys in a connection string is a pretty minor quibble!!

I have to agree with Ryan; fantastic photo! Please forward me the photographer's information. 
Smileys need to stay. There's nothing like looking at someone else's connection string with a little icon sticking it's tounge out. However, the bracket thing can be a problem when trying to read or help with code. For those times you really really need the brackets - you can replace them with straight HTML and they will render.

What does "tounge" mean?
"Its" is a non-hyphenated pronoun.
Oops, that was for my proofreading forum. Got mixed up for a moment there.
Smileys in a connection string somehow detract from the solemnity of the occasion, lending proceedings an unexpectedly jaunty air. Not such a bad thing really.
