phased revenue

fiogf49gjkf0d I have been asked to look at adding a phased revenue forecast to the sales pipeline. i.e. when a sale has been closed, the possibility of inputting a revenue stream to show when you expect to receive the income. The amounts could be fixed (100%) or variable for some contracts. Is there an add on product out there that can provide this? Thanks |

fiogf49gjkf0d There is no add-on product that I've seen. What we did here was create a general opportunity for this type of revenue and set the estimated close date to the month we expect the income. Our account manager manages the amounts (and already was before this) and updates the opportunities as necessary.
This is a fairly simple solution, maybe you need to spread it out over time for each contract vs. summarizing the figures monthly. For this you might want to take a look at the opportunity_product table. There is an estimatedclose date field that SLX removed from visibility in 6.2 SP1 (I think). You could reinstate this field and for each contract add the product the number of times needed to spread the amount over time and change the estimatedclose date to the date you expect the revenue. Seems to be a lot more work than just a summarizing the amount via one opportunity per month.
Are there any more details of the type of report output required? Are they just monthly or is there a need to dig down to the day?

fiogf49gjkf0d John Thanks very much for the reply. I will forward this on to the sales manager to get his comments.
I think the main issue that we have is that our company provides support services rather than discrete products. So one day we could be installing a new hard drive into a hoki-koki 5000 - the next day installing a number of PC upgrades etc etc. So there is an umbrella support contract which can be estimated at a run rate of so much revenue per month which is refined as the contract progresses.
If anyone else has ideas would welcome some feedback.
Thanks again John. Andrew |
