can any one help me out how to open an existing activity on double clicking a row of a data grid.

Take a look at the following. You'll invoke these from teh double-click of the grid and pass the appropriate activityid:

Application.BasicFunctions.EditActivity
and
Application.BasicFunctions.CompleteActivity
