Easily open a PDF file
Posted: 03 Dec 07 8:54 AM
For v6.2.6
I need a button to open a specified PDF file using Acrobat Reader 8. This is what I've used:
Set objPDF = Application.CreateObject("AcroPDF.PDF.1")
objPDF.LoadFile MyFileName
Set objPDF = Nothing
I can tell that the application is running after the code is executed, because "AcroRd32.exe" appears under "Processes" in Windws Task Manager. However, the application is not visible. What am I missing?

Is there a reason to open it using the Acrobat object model? Did you need to manipulate it further or something? if so, I believe the object model has another method to open and show the PDF doc, try browsing the object model for some other "Open" method.
However, it doesn't look like (from the sample you provided) that there is any need to use the Actobat model at all, if all you're wanting is to open/display the file. You can just "run" it and Windows will load it in the associated default app for PDF files. Take a look here for the code to do that:

Ah, yes...WScript.Shell is your friend. Thanks, Ryan!
