Hi,
Does anyone know this: Does SLX processes tabs (forms) which are not open for the user but shown in "MORETAB"-tab in main view?

We are facing serious performance issues and trying to figure out the reason. I was thinking maybe SLX processes all forms released for the user on opening and changing of contact/account.

Thanks

I think that the answer is 'no' - but suggest that you check what is going on by running SLX Profiler while someone is having the issues. It might help you track down queries which are executing slowly. A common cause of bad performance is where accounts have thousands of lines of Notes/History - could this be a factor here? If so, I have seen suggestions elsewhere in this forum to speed things up.

You should also check performance at the SQL Server level - do you have regular maintenance plans running to do your db optimisation?

The Profiler really could help us with this, unfortunately we have 6.2.1 which doenst have the profiler. But we want to upgrade anyway as i think in later versions DB-performance was optimized. Now i use a network sniffer on a VMWare which simulates our current SLX-setting to determine which sqls are posted and to check latency - but this is very time consuming...

but I will check the history / notes of accounts, thats a good hint.

Our problem is, sometimes it takes from 30s to 1 minute to switch from e.g. account to contact. We have now configured SLX profiles in a way that a "all accounts" and "all contacts" group is default at startup - this decreases startup time of course but speeds up the later change of account / contact (as it seems, but not sure....).

we are running Oracle 9.2.0.8 which is maintened regular so this should be ok - but i sometimes have the feeling that oracle is the bottleneck... its so hard to track down the problem. if anyone is having good ideas - very welcome

You were right, tabs only residing in "MORETABS" are not prcessed. One day of networtk traffic sniffing and analysing Oracle Logs i - aehmm - added a messagebox to one tab and yep, the message did only show if tab was active me idiot, could have saved lots of time if i did this before...

But performance is still a problem...

99% (maybe that's a bit overboard) of your problem is that you are 6.2.1. In SP3 (6.2.3) Sage SalesLogix introduced Virtualized Server Side Cursors to solve performance issues. All versions of SalesLogix (from 6.0 thru 6.2.2) use Client side cursor for everything.. that is the entire recordset w/all data is loaded to the client.

Basically short of upgrading there's very little you can do to solve your performance problems. I would not waste teh time trying to fix a "leak" when there's no bottom in the barrel...
