Multiple Account ManagersYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I have a large client that is deploying SLX in multiple departments (shared database). These departments share accounts, but use them for different purposes, so I am designing various types of segregation (for detail fields, tabs, picklists etc) so that the end-user experience is not confusing.

The client has stated that accounts can have 'several' account managers - depending, once again, on the department or area of the current user. I can think of ways of adding this functionality, but I will not modify the core AccountManager stuff.

Thinking about this made me realise that I do not really know what an Account Manager can do versus an ordinary user of the account. The on-line help doesn't really explain it either. Any helpful users out there who will explain the significance of being the account manager and its implications?

Thanks
Phil

There isn't much significance in the Account Manager field from the perspective of security (i.e. the standard security architecture isn't designed to consider Acct Mgr when grating a user access to a record).

The Account Manager field is important for managing data however. First, it is often used for creating groups. But you could just as easily do this on a custom Account Manager field in your case if there were multiple sales reps assigned to the account. More important however are the OOB tools such as Territory Realignment which key off the OOTB AM field. (Again, you could build a custom utility that realigned your custom AM fields... if you have the time).

There are other places where the OOTB Acct Mgr field pops up... Notifications in the Tickets module, etc. But you CAN hide the OOTB Account Manager field and still use SalesLogix. We've had to do this for several customers.

Incidently, we've taken different approaches with providing for multiple AMs. In some cases, we created fixed fields for each division to indicate the AM for that division (i.e. add 3 fields to the Account Detail screen - one for each division). In other cases, we actually added a datagrid where there could be an unlimited number of people who claim a relationship to the Account. There are pros and cons to each.

That's exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for - thanks Dean
