I added a new table that works as an extension to the ACCOUNT table, called V_ACCOUNT_SPEC. Added a bunch of fields. Populated them for various accounts.

Create a new plugin, a new form that's another "tab" for the Account Details view. Released the new plugin to "Everyone." A few fields come from ACCOUNT, a couple from another extension table, and the rest from the new table. Admin, signed in, can see the values for all fields. Everyone else can see all fields' values but those that pull from the new table. There's no code behind the form.

Is there a way to release a table or its fields to people? How ya do that? I don't remember ever having to do that before?

TIA

Well, I have seen some random glitches with field-level security, so you could check that out.

But if you're on V7+, why not just add the new fields to the ACCOUNT table rather than creating extension tables?

Well, simplicity of use for the users who write queries, primarily. I suppose I could tack them onto the other extension table. Just makes for a long list of fields to wade through. We are indeed on version 7.

True, but at least the users don't have to know that field x is on ACCOUNT, field y is on C_ACCOUNT and z is on ACCOUNT_EXT or whatever. It's surely simpler to explain to them if everything is in one place - them scrolling through a list is also faster for your support people by avoiding the "where is my data?" support call.

I no longer create extension tables unless they are likely to contain data for only a small percentage of the records to which they are linked and have had far fewer issues (as a developer) than pre V7. Actually, I stopped around 6.1
