OnExitControl and Exiting a Data FormYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Hello,

I have a data form that handles editing individual rows of a DataGrid. In this form i have an EditBox that is a custom field which i am currently validating using the OnExitControl event with a VBScript sub.

Everything works fine, unless the user enters invalid data and then hits the escape key. This causes the event to be triggered as the control has lost focus, so it gives it's error message and causes an access violation as the form no longer exists.

I am using the built in form validation event in the event that the user submits the form, and check to see if the form is currently validating before checking the edit box.

So i am looking for a way to make my sub not try to validate the box when the form is exiting and not updating data.

Thanks

I would put my validation code in the AXFormCloseQuery (OnCloseQuery) event - this allows you to stop the form from closing if data isn't validated. Furthermore you can wrap your validation data like the following - what this says is, if the users hits cancel, don't validate (cancel is the default button for the esc key)

blnValidated = true
if (Sender.ModalResult <> mrCancel) then
'Do validation here and set blnValidated appropriately
end if
AXFormCloseQuery = blnValidated
