code
Posted: 18 Feb 08 7:13 AM
I have the following code which I have applied to my form, I basically want to run a query and once this query has executed I want the results to be displayed in the field (cboProductType). However the following code does not seem to do that any assistance would be grateful.
Sub cboProductTypeChange(Sender)
dim oCon
dim oRS
dim strSQL
Set oCon = Application.GetNewConnection
strSQL = "SELECT DISTINCT(ORDER_FAMILY) FROM BIP_ORDER_HEADERS WHERE ORDER_FAMILY IS NOT NULL"
While Not oRS.EOF
cboProductType.Items.Add(oRs.Fields("ORDER_FAMILY").Value)
oRS.MoveNext
WEnd
End Sub

You need to populate your resultset after setting strSQL.
Set oRS = oCon.Execute(strSQL)
Also do not forget to close and dispose of your objects when you are finished with them.
And if the sub gets called repeatedly, you will find that the cbo items append over and over again. So you should consider putting a
cboProductType.Items.Clear
in there too.

I dont see where your gathering the data into your recordset..
oRS.Open(strSQL), oCon
Do While Not oRS.EOF
cboProductType.Items.Add(oRs.Fields("ORDER_FAMILY").Value)
oRS.MoveNext
Loop
something like that
Opps didn't see Phil's post in my reader.. Good idea Phil..
