Restrict access to custom fields
Posted: 15 Apr 08 5:20 PM
Hi I have added three custom fields to SLX, I need the fields to be visable to all, but only changeable by admin. (They are picklist and dropdowns) I know I can do this by scipting but not sure where to insert the script change in the existing script?

If you are on a new form you could add a snippet similar to:
If lcase(application.basicfunctions.currentuserid) = "admin" then
mycontrol.readonly = false
else
mycontrol.readonly = true
end if
I would place this in the OnChangeEvent of the form.
You should also be able to do this control via the administrator using the field level security, as long as those fields are in a table that enforces field level security.

Actually, all you have to do is designate that the picklists cannot be changed when you are defining them in the Architect. Users will not be able to add/edit them, but the Admin will be able to maintain them directly.
No additional logic is necessary.
