What determines the argument tree available when you select the Function action on a menu?

For example, Action:Function; Agrument:Insert gives you a choiec of things like "ContactAccount", "FileAttachment", etc.. Is there a picklist with the choices?

Also, since I hate bugging the experts if there's documentation readily available, is there documentation readily available? I have practically nothing.

Thanks

Those are called Secured Functions or SecFunctions. They are not documented that I am aware of (actually I do think there is some info in the Architect help - although I've not checked for a while and it was very minimal info anyway - not enough to really go on)

Mike Boysen has some articles on the subject on his site:

Deploying a SalesLogix Custom Secured Function
And Integrating it with Global Events, Menus and Toolbars

http://www.saleslogix-guru.com/custom-secured-function.html

Removing Disabled Functions From Toolbars and Menus
http://www.saleslogix-guru.com/more-global-function-tricks.html

Hopefully that will be enough to get you started.

Ryan, do you know if the articles by Mike are still around somewhere? saleslogix.guru is down for good and the Mike's articles are not on the customerfx site either. I remember reading the articles a long time ago and thinking this is everything I need to know that none of the dev help files contain. Can you help me find Mike's old articles (or something just as good)? I want to control the edit and complete functionality for activities, yet I do not rewrite the entire activities sections within SalesLogix like you have done.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ted!

It's true that the SalesLogix-Guru site is gone for good (Mike's not affiliated with customerfx, which is why you won't find the articles there). I've mentioned to Mike that his articles would be a good addition to this site if he could dig them up from somewhere. For now, you can see the cached versions from the archive.org WaybackMachine. Some images might not work, but you'll find the text content available there.

Hope this helps.
