Custom Lookup not returning results when magnifying glass clicked

Hi all.
We are in upgrading to 7.2.1 from 6.2.6, and everything works great except some lookups we created in v6.2.6, when you enter any criteria in the lookup and click the magnifying glass, it does not return any results in the datagrid. Yet when you click OK you see all of the results.
The tables where these custom lookups are failing are tables we added, they have inner joins with the Account table and are linked to the accountid field.
Is there some bug in 7.2.1 (we have not applied any hot fixes, should we?)
