Go to the Contact:Details form. Change the time zone(cboTimeZones.) Leave that record and come back. Mine doesn't display the data. (The data is posting to the Address:Timezone field though.)
Also, the Local time zone always appears, even when the time zone is selected, is in the database(though) it doesn't display in the control.
If this is a defect, is there a fix for it?

Never mind.
This is a known SalesLogix defect number 1-57335 that is fixed in 7.2 SP2.

Partially fixed..
Fixed in Contacts.. still broken in Accounts.
The data is actually saved in the Address Record(s) but just does not display.

But how hard would it be to have the timezone given to you based on the address (country)?

The ideal way to obtain the initial TZ info would be a web service. I've got a prototype that we put together. Maybe I'll put it up for subscription services on the net and let folks subscribe
