Is There Value to Unreleasing Unused Plugins?Your last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

Our company was given a recommendation a little while ago to unrelease unused plugins to lower the amount of memory that SalesLogix uses on a particular machine (and in this case it was to lower the individual footprints of SLX on Citrix). My understanding of individual plugins is that they aren't generally more than several K in size, so even if you had a ton of unused released plugins, you wouldn't have more than a few hundred K of extra code loaded into memory.

Would there be a real benefit, then, to unreleasing unused plugins?

Groups are one exception - get rid of them to minimize the client load time for the admin user.

Otherwise, I would just condsider this a house cleaning task. I think there is value in cleaning house, but no, I would not expect noticeable improvements in performance. In fact, I would take it one further and say that if the unused plugins are custom plugins, bundle them up to archive them and then delete them, not just unrelease them. But again, this is just to clean house.

Thanks! You confirmed my opinion.

Cleaning up groups is actually a whole different task...

On a related note, many systems end up with dozens (sometimes hundreds) of old versions of plugins. I don't think this affects user performance, but it makes Architect unwieldy to work in. They are all marked "Read Only," so unchecking "read-only" on each one before deleting it is tedious.

Would it be safe to use a SQL to uncheck read-only on unreleased plugs so that they may be easier to delete?

Yes sir. I do this often as I am lazy .

A preventive measure is to disable the "Plugins are Readonly when Released" option in the Architect.
