Adding Filter Option to the Notes/History tab for Accounts (v.7.0)
Posted: 15 Aug 08 4:54 PM
Hi all,
[I have seen threads on this from some time ago, but none recent and never for version 7.0.]
I have received a request to add two filtering options to the Notes/History tab of the Accounts entity. One filter would provide a picklist of Category options to filter for. The second filter would act similarly to the "Show Database Changes" check box by always hiding a Category with "Tech Support" unless the check box was checked.
Does anyone have experience adding either of these mods? Thanks for the advice!

It's certainly possible - the form and all the code are easily modifiable. Not sure how much detail you need - just edit the Account:NotesHistory form, add the new controls and then modify the associated events. You may also have to modify the NotesHistory Common script to handle the new controls.

Thanks for posting the above info, Phil. That is very good news for my team.
Would you happen to know which filter form (or plug-in) contains the filtering option? The Notes/History forms which I have found shows the “show filter” button, but is not the form which actually shows the filters themselves.
Also, I am planning to copy one of the existing filters function and then customize the commands for the new filtering. Do you see any issues which might arise due to this plan of attack? This will be the first time we modify any of the filters and any tips you want to share will be a great help I am sure.
Thanks again for the great info!

Ahhh - I forgot to mention that. The filter controls
are
on the form - you just can't see them. Click on the panel pnlFilterOptions and then expand it downwards - you will see the controls are there. This is what the 'Filter Options' button does to display the filters - it changes the height of the panel:
pnlFilterOptions.Height = Application.Environment.PixelsPerInch * 84/96
When you have finished playing with the controls, remember to shrink the panel back to its original height.
Your plan of attack is fine - just make sure that you give the copied control a meaningful name and check that the events associated with it (which will also be copied) remain applicable.
