I have noticed in a lot of our code the use of the Application.GlobalInfo.Item and Application.BasicFunctions.GlobalInfoFor functionality in SLX VBscript. I myself have used the BasicFunctions area more, but I am considering (for purposes of consistency) to using the GlobalInfo.Item constructs instead. Since they (at least at first glance) seem to perform the same function, is there a compelling reason to use one approach over another? I have encountered no problems using the BasicFunctions GlobalInfoSet/GlobalInfoFor commands so far.

They are both one and the same and can be used interchangeably. For new code, you should use the Application.GlobalInfo since it makes for nicer syntax. Basically, the BasicFunctions are the same things wrapped for legacy conversion.
