We want to add a lookup to the Add/Edit Response form (Marketing) that allows you to select a name from a lookup that includes SalesLogix Users and contacts. We want this ability so we can track where responses come from to give proper credit to that person. As is the case with marketing a reference can be referred by anyone. So the requirement to combine both names from the SLX userinfo and contact tables is important.

I can't think of any, but are there any examples of functionality like this already in SLX?

My first thought is to create a view that included fields for: entityid (either contactid or userid), lastname and firstname. I think the next step would be to create a lookup for the view that would referenced in a lookup control on the Add/Edit Response form. A field would also be added to the targetresponse table to store the contact/user ID. Does this sound right?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
John G.

What you might try is:
Lookup the entityID of the address table and show contact.nameFL and userinfo.username in different columns.
Then you just have to set a filter to get rid of account & lead addresses.

That sounds like a really smart solution.

Well done!

Since we need user info more than anything I put a lookup on the form for users.

A lookup for contacts might be needed in the future, just not now. The address table might work for this case. But there are a couple of concerns. First, how are the filters to be set to limit the lookup to just contact and user records. I know that the first character in entityid denotes 'U'ser or 'C'ontact, but where would the filter be set? I guess this would be in an event of the lookup control?

Also, by adding contact.nameFL and userinfo.username columns to the address lookup, won't that change the look in all places where the address lookup is used? Outside of this specialized use the additional fields are not necessary and would most likely cause confusion for many of the users.

Thinking about it some more I'm wondering if just adding a second lookup control for contacts to the form would be easier. I would add radio buttons similar to how the Lead and Contact section on the left of the form is done. Only this would read 'User' and 'Contact'. Selecting one will disable the other and each would have its own lookup that is standard out of the box.

Thanks!
John G.
