I’m looking into modifying the activity window which is used when scheduling or completing an activity and would like to get some feedback on viability of the following:

I would like to add a second, or even a third Ticket field to the Complete Scheduled Activity window. This would allow the user to associate the activity to more than one Ticket during entry of one activity. If possible I would prefer to have these additional Ticket Fields appear only once the first Ticket field has been populated. This will save space for the majority of activities which have nothing to do with any Tickets.

It is common that support communication with a customer (i.e. email, phone call, meeting) are related to more than one Ticket. With the “out of the box” functionality of SalesLogix each activity can only be associated with one Ticket at a time. In order to have the activity also appear in another Ticket’s Ticket Activities tab the activity must be entered multiple times. To avoid having the activity appear in the Account or Contact’s Notes/History more than once during these multiple entries each successive activity entry must have the Account and Contact association removed from the Schedule Activity window. This long and arduous process lead to the idea described above.

Any idea or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The latest versions do allow you (partial) access to customizing Activities via the SYSTEM:Activity Details View (form). In addition, there are "hooks" in the Global (event) vbscripts as well.. go for it!

Thanks for your post, Bob. We were a little behind on our updates, but I'm getting ready to install SP2 for SLX 7.0 now. On 7.0.2 will this kind of revision to the activity window be an option? I will need to put together an idea of development time for our IT, so if you have any comments re same they are very welcome.

The answer to these questions may become clear once we begin looking around at mod options, but I ask in case I can get a heads up.

There is an Activity Detail View (Form) in 7.0.x - BUT ther are issues w/customizing Activities that did not get (completely) fixed until v7.2.2.

I Strongly suggest you look at jumping to 7.5 (or at least 7.2.2) otherwise you will find yourself fighting "bugs".

7.5 is really a "Service Pack" for Windows based SalesLogix.

Thanks for supplying such full and complete information, Bob. I'll have to consider your suggestions and all that the upgrading to 7.2.2 would entail.
