Add a new activity and follow-up type called "E-Mail".

Has anyone ever wanted an option to schedule an e-mail follow-up vs. a phone call or to-do? I do most of the time and decided to submit it as a feature request. I think it's makes for a valid feature. What are your thoughts? If you agree submit a feature request to Sage!

I guess another question would be is if anyone has ever added this kind of functionality themselves?

Adding an E-Mail activity and follow-up makes a lot of sense because it is a form of communication like a Phone Call or Meeting. I'm sure if one were to look at the history table 85-95% of it would be recorded emails. When you record those emails many times the most appropriate follow-up is another email. It doesn't make sense to schedule a phone call or to-do when what you are doing is sending an email for a status or to touch base with a contact.

I think an E-Mail activity and follow-up would align with today's demand of communication through e-mail.

I recall this being requested back in February 1997 at the first Partner's training meeting......

The response in 1997 was interesting:
FAX
TELEX
TELEGRAM
PAGE
EMAIL
PHONE
Will simply lump under Phone Call....

Then in about 4.1 the Do No Solicit via nTypes was introduced on the Contact Screen....as well as the Preferred Contact Method....(and many of us added preferred contact Times and/or Place as well....). Amadeo Tarzia had individual contact's schedules by Address.....as doctor's were at the Clinic on Monday and Wednesday, Office on Tuesday, SurgiCenter on Thursday, and University on Friday (Aspen, golf course, or yachting on Saturday and Sunday.....)

So today maybe of these activity 'types' are by the wayside (I did send a fax the other Month)....

Now you have

Text Message
Blog
RSS
Email
Webex
Phone Conference
Phone Call

But to answer your question....we heavily customized Activity/History back in 1999.....multiple contacts at a meeting or phone call, multiple opps? Product Samples (quantity, Non disclosure Agreements signed, lot no, expiration date), Lead Sources, Users in attendance and how long they were at the meeting (before User_Activity existed), Expenses, Address for the Meeting!!! (and directions on how to get there)....and yes, allowed for email blasts and follow up to all or some attendees (users, contacts).....great for saying hey the meeting time has changed....

So Email follow Up? Make it a To Do to send an email......

And wait for SLX to revamp the entire Activity Notes History Events subsystem (which has needed rehauling since 1998.....).

As a former Sales Manager and SalesRep.....watch the HBO Series Entourage.....watch ARI pound the phones......if you personally think that EMAILS are the way to followup on closing a deal......think again. Emails are great for sending answers to questions, and attaching docs to.......but the human voice is what closes deals.....

I agree completely that the human voice is what closes deals. My annoyance, so to say, are all the email follow-ups that are everything following-up to a deal close. Or in my case (since I'm not in sales) is all the follow-ups to support issues relative to closed deals, internal issues, etc - a good deal being non-sales related.

While SLX is for Sales it is a CRM system and many more people outside of sales utilize it in their day-to-day activities with customers, vendors, prospects, leads. etc.. and those activities might not always be directly related to sales.
