I have the standard version of saleslogix and apparently I cannot create a new plug in.
How do I go about getting a new plug (Besides The obvious... Reseller) in into my instance of sales logix if I have only the standard version?

I'd say the "official" answer would have to be, "you don't" - one of the main differences between the Standard and Enterprise versions has always been that the Standard version doesn't allow you to create new plugins. However, you should be able to modify existing ones, which might be sufficient in itself, depending on what you're trying to do.

So... what are you trying to do, then? (You don't have to be too specific... also, version numbers would probably help.)

Aside from some other differences (like Web), the difference between the Standard and Advanced/Premier is that you cannot do customisations. The only answer to this is to upgrade (or have your reseller do the customisations on your behalf). There is no other way.

What I would like to do is set up a data grid to enumerate machines and the properties of those machines in that grid. I would also need to set up an add edit form to maintain the list.

What I am hoping can be done is that my reseller can create for me a blank form for the grid and a blank form for the add edit. then I can get in there and perform all to the customization on those forms. Is this possible?

Correct, once they've done the initial forms and creation - you will be able to edit those forms/scripts.

Great.

Is there limitations on Web Customizations as well... In web manager I do not see any items for the base packages. It seems I can create new templates... but I am unable to copy from a bass package template.

BTW I love your profile picture, Ive got 18 jumps behind my belt and am looking to get certified.

Thanks !! But, I only did it as fun - and scared the crap out of me (landed with the wind as opposed to against it!).

But, I'm a little confused - you can't be using Web at all if you have Standard - as that's the other difference - no web ??? Not sure if that's a UK thing - but, Standard in UK means no customisations or web.

so you came in pretty fast eh?

I'm on 7.5 and I managed to get a Web Host License in the aftermath of much confusion.
Sages 7.5 marketing was ambiguous about whether or not it came with the standard version and I was told it was when it wasn't. The good people in customer service gave us a break on getting the license as we have expended much effort as a result of miss information.

So yes we have a web host license. and I will be looking into writing customizations via a desperate ASP.NET application but I want to add links to the main SLX web pages to the custom web applications.

Oh yes, very very fast !!! Even the instructor panicked !!

Ah right, yes - you shouldn't have had that license at all !! It's actually very clear in their pricing docs (that the BP has !) so no idea why !!
But, glad you got it sorted.

Hi Robert,

Your only options are to have your reseller create the base plugin for you and then you can add to it or Upgrade to a version that allows new plugin creation.

Best regards,

I don't believe there are any license-based limitations on customizing the 7.5 web client once it's up and running, are there? If you can open the database in Application Architect (as opposed to just "Architect"), you should be able to do pretty much anything, including modify the navbar/toolbars and the base template(s) all you like.

Still, once those ASP.NET apps start getting desperate, they can turn on you in a heartbeat. Believe me, I've seen it happen more than once!

OK John, you know never to use the word ALWAYS......
SLX up through about 5.26 all had the Standard version with a FULL Architect..... I remember $395 for a LAN Client.....$995 for the Server....$995 for the Sync Server.......and $695 for a Remote Client.....and the Architect was thrown in for free....
