Our company has had SLX for about 5 years now and now they want to customize parts in it. So I've been dabbling in Architect and I don't really know what I'm doing.

I took the Sage "anytime course" "Introduction to Developing for Sage SalesLogix LAN v7.5", but (since we are laying people off) sending me to the development course is not in our budget. I can add edit fields and other basic stuff. I even made a custom table and form to hold information linked to the Ticket system, but I have a feeling I may be missing important processes that I don't know about.

I'm an Oracle Programmer, so I understand the DB basics very well, but I have never used VB Script or Visual Studio. We have v7.2 with LAN clients. We won't be doing anything with the web for a long time.

So I have to convince my boss that Devlogix III.7 is worth the ~$200. Is this going to be the best "bang for the buck" investment we could do?

I have been to the 5.2 and the LAN 7.5 class. I have the DevLogix 2nd Edition.. I use it more then I use the books from class.

I'm going through the "Developer's Reference Guide Version 5.2" from a previous employee who must've gone to the class many years ago. If Devlogix isn't easier to learn from than this, I'm toast because I'm not learning too much from this.

Oh god I'm sorry... I dug out my copy of that book.. yeah it sucks if you dont know much about VB Script or SLX.

Also, you can NOT use that because of the introduction of "Active Forms" in version 6. Lots and lots of stuff changed.

In my opinion, (and I'm gonna bet most of the others here also would agree), you can NOT use the 5.2 book to learn how to code stuff in SLX in any version above 6.0.

That's good to know. Since that is all we have, your information might be enough to justify a purchase.

Heck just buy it on your own, like you would a cell phone or business casual clothes. You'll be more efficient, allowing you more time to drink beer, walk the dog, and mess around with friends and relatives. And your work product will be so much improved that GUARANTEED you will get that raise......

and it's a tax write off.

Thanks. My boss bought it after a meeting where HIS boss said, "Can we put this in SalesLogix" and I said, "If I had the book, I could do it".........
