Issues in adding a new column and get the data in Data Grid

hi,
I am very new to SalesLogix.
I am trying to add a new column to the data grid and bind it with a column in Contact table.
I am able to add the column to the data grid but I am not able to fetch the data from the table and display it in the correponding column of the grid.
When I run the client tool no data is displayed.
when i click on the particular column I added I get a "Failed to parse SQL"
Please help me out in resolving the issue.
