Use pipeline status without using Sales ProcessesYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I have a client who does not use Sales Processes but does want to use the pipeline status Opp. Pipeline. They have also chagned the names of the stages from the oob system. Is there some config somewhere that will allow this pipeline dashboard to use non oob stages without using Sales Processes? (a small mod was made to update the Probability when the Stage picklist is changed). Thanks

We do not use sales processes either but I am a little confused about you stating that they use stages which are a part of a sales process. Do you really mean 'Status' which is a picklist of 'Closed - Won, 'Closed - Lost', 'Open' and 'Inactive'. If so then I would highly recommend you do not change this pick list in any way unless you are prepared to change a lot of the code dealing with opportunities. The opportunity status pick list is hard coded into many opportunity forms and scripts.

I know this from experience because we tried customizing the opportunity status list and it really messes things up. If you leave the opp status list alone (leave it to its oob values - no adds or deletes) then many of the sales dashboard charts and lists will start to look right - except the pipeline which relies on a sales process going through stages. If you can convince them to create one sales process that corresponds to their probability list and set it to change the probability as each stage is completed I think they'll have what they want. As a purely hypothetical example, the stages might be

Open - 10%
Discovery - 25%
Meeting - 50%
Proposal - 75%
Sign-Off - 90%
Delivery - 100%

When each stage is completed the probability will change automatically and the pipeline will reflect the update. To make the probability change automatically, make sure the "Update Opp Prob %" option is set to "Yes" for the sales process and each stage is assigned the proper percentage.

Oh, something to make note of is if you set a sales process to update the probability automatically, the probability field will be disabled. This will force the user to go to the opportunity process tab and check off the stage as its completed to make the probability advance to the next level. Also, you can set stages to be skipped or have to be completed before going to the next stage. This is really no different than changing the probability field directly, but since the opp is going through a sales process to change probability the sales pipeline will reflect what they want to see.
