Some technical instruction needed

Hi all, i recenty posted a thread titled Opportunity - Sales Process (see below)
Question: Although a step may be marked as required it doesn’t mean that if there is an action (Phone Call, Meeting, To-Do etc) associated that this has to be created. The user is able to just tick complete without having created the activity. It would be nice if the complete box was automatically populated when the activity was created and the user could only manually tick the complete box if there is no activity associated with the step. Any advice?
Reply from Raul A. Chavez: You can customize it.
I have done this on the Windows and Web (including legacy). The way I built it, I added a Tracking ID to the Activity, so if the Step was associated with an activity, it required for that activity to be completed, and then I would mark the step as Complete.
***Thank you very much for the reply Raul, its good to know something can be done but i was wondering if someone could provide slightly more technical instruction regarding the matter? Unfortunately i am VERY new to Saleslogix.

Hi Andrew
I am sorry, but I am going to be a bit negative here: the level of knowledge required to perform these customisations is such that someone who is new to SLX would find it, erm, intense to try and make these mods, which require database, GUI and business logic amendments (via VBScript code).
Mr Chavez's solution sounds elegant to me and would not, however, be a huge job for a qualified SLX developer.
I suggest that you either a) Get a business partner involved, or b) Get yourself skilled up in development by taking the appropriate training course.
Or maybe there is someone here who is prepared to go through, in detail, what needs to be done - if so, good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply. Ill keep my fingers crossed in regards to a willing person. I am capable in terms of VBScript and Database etc. i was just hoping someone could give me some slightly more technical advice or point me in the riht direction but i dont require an intense step by step tutorial if that may make people more willing |

Well that's a good start
Background question: are you familiar with the SLX development tools (primarily Architect and DB Manager)? Do you understand the concepts of plugins and releases? You need to know a little before you wade in ...

Unfortunately Architect and DB Manager are new to me. The concepts of plugins and releases ive been going over but there are people here who know about them (but they arent programmers capable of doing the scripting etc.)
So i can handle scripting and database changes etc but the tools are new to me. Basically at the moment i know how to drive im just lost and need directions. |
