Sales Process problem

Morning all, unfortunately i have a problem i have brought on myself!
I have performed a previous customisation on the sales process plugin so users can not manaully check the complete box. The current state of the sales process plugin is that when a user clicks a hyperlink step (for this exampe ill use scheduling a phone call) the complete date is populated and the complete box is checked automatically.
Unfortunately i came across a problem concerning steps with a 'None' activity on them that i solved by changing the order what is executed first. So when a user clicks a hyperlink step the complete box is checked and the date populated BEFORE the screen comes up to schedule the phone call.
Now assuming the user continues to schedule the call as normal everything works fine but if the user cancels the activity then the message box from SP_SalesProcessFunctions informs them they have cancelled (which is good) and does not schedule the phone call (which is good) but of course due to my changes the complete date is still populated and the check box still checked.
What i was wondering is if anyone has any ideas how to tell the script to clear the complete date and uncheck the complete box following the code which displays the cancel message. As this message appears in SP_SalesProcessFunctions rather than the Sales Process plugin im not sure how to go about it.
Any alternative ideas would also be great. Thanks.

UPDATE: ive managed to create a new function which wil reomve the complete date and the tick out of the completed check box but still cant remove the start date from the next step down.
