Folks, with the way we use SLX, it would be very handy to have a utility to automate the creation of Contact entries based on our User accounts. Basically, the utility could run through current User accounts and look for a Contact whose email address matches each User's. For those User accounts where no corresponding Contact is found, a new one would be created, leveraging the information in the User Profile data, and placing the Contact into either a holding Account or an Account that corresponds to the particular organizational element where the User reports.


Does anyone know of such a utility or script? We're looking at making one for our particular use, but if something exists, we might have a leg-up.


FYI, this will be very handy for us with an upcoming (we think) enhancement to SLX that will allow multiple Contacts to be associated with Activities...


Any insights or recos would be very welcome. Thanks!

Hi Allen, I was involved in some of the early design discussions on this (through Light Industries).....There isn't any script on this that I'm aware of, would be fairly simple to write, begs to have a KnowledgeSync or Task Centre job written to accomplish this.....and are you absolutely positive you want the SLX User connected TWICE to an SLX Activity (once for the Contact Attendee and once for the User-Activity record with the Calendar busy\free lookup stuff....

Aha, we work with Light Industries as our VAR and they've done great work for us. I was discussing this with Lane in their Baltimore office the other day and he felt the same. Just thought I'd shake the trees to see if there's anything for us to use as a basis...


And on your question... NOBODY SEEMS TO GET THE WAY WE USE SLX. We have many meetings where the primary rep from our side is a VP who will never touch SLX, and they're maybe accompanied by a Director who will have their assistant create the Activity entry. And they're visiting an Lt. General who will have their Deputy Commander with them. So that's four different Contacts, none of whom are the User... In our place, the ability to discover that entry makes a load of difference in building an understanding of the relationship we have with both the individuals and organizations with whom we're interfacing.

Lane and I go way back.....


Anyway, I got what you are trying to accomplish.....have actually already done this 10 years ago in the LAN Client for a Sports Marketing Group (Kane County Cougars semi-pro baseball), and several Sales Rep Organizations (they have many vendors, many contacts, many opportunities, many accounts.......being discussed at one sales meeting). And there are many organizations out there that have User's as Contacts.....one of the first exercises you run in training is to have each user find their Account organization and add themselves as a Contact! so usually no need for a global script Wink

But a linking field in Contact\Account to a UserID or another Team\Department\SeccodeID is certainly possible.....designating a 'unique' company\department in the Users fields through the administrator a little challenging (Their may be multiple company names = "IBM"....and Department is a 1:Many list of values based on the UserID belonging to Teams that are Departments (the UserInfo.Department field wasn't rendered inaccurate several versions ago). So you may have to design some sort of form to administer USERPROFILE and put some lookup controls on the form to go after the User's Actual AccountId, ContactId.....


 


All doable.....and has been done before.
