How can I create a new "family" (like the existing "Account", "Contact" or "Opportunity" families)?

SalesLogix 101 - Same way for both legacy as well as "active"

It's all in the Picklists:

A - Legacy:
Form Types
Basic Script Types

B - Active:
Active Form Types
Active Script Types
Global Script Types
MainView Types

C - Both:
Menu Types
ToolBar Types

Hi Richard,
You can create new family by goto 'Architect' --> 'Manage' --> 'Picklist' --> Under Salogix Tab. you will get list of picklists that you can modify.
Eg. Basic Script Types, Form Types, Report Families, support form types, toolbar types.
