Does anyone know wether the mergefields in a SalesLogix template have a length limitation.

I have inserted a SLX field (database field type: Memo) into a SalesLogix letter template and that field contains some comments about the contact. But if I print out the template, the content of that SLX mergefield is truncated after 254 characters.

We are using SLX 6.2.3.

Have you tried casting it to text field?

Thanks Carla.

Yes, I have tried to cast it to text field, but it doesn't works.

It seems that the mergefields in SalesLogix are limitated to show not more than 255 characters.

Not sure I am of any assistance here, but I do have one other thought on troubleshooting. Are you sure the issue is in the SLX export? Could it possibly be that the field in the MailMerge template can not receive more than 254? Are there any properties you can manipulate at that level?

When (and If! ) I get a moment I'll try it on my environment and see what I can or can not manipulate.

an update to this posting.....

I am experiencing the same problem...has anyone found a solution or at least confirmed that this is the case and we are not doing something incorrect

found the answer from another forum but will post here also...

Instead of using the inserted field, change that and use a SQL field instead and write SQL that returns the memo data back to the field. Just make sure that the Where clause equals the contactID that your merge record includes...

select "memo field" from 'xxxxxx'
where contactid = :ContactId
