Attachments not linked to Accounts - V7.0.1

I've run into the situation where I want users to be able to create attachments which are not logically linked to accounts. In the past (V6x), I've done this by creating a dummy account and associating them all with that. Untidy, but it works - assuming that you are happy making the dummy account owned by Everyone and having the attachments sync to Everyone.
Doing this again on V7, I've noticed that I can create an attachment record and then remove AccountID, ContactID, Opportunity. Of course, I can add my new foreign key to the ATTACHMENT table too.
So it's all working well - new attachment created and linked to my new custom table via the new FK. My question is, what happens with remotes and synchronisation? Will the attachment sync to all remotes, or none? If none, can I manually force it to sync out?
