Migration from 6.2 to 7.0 or to 7.2

Hi, I have to install SalesLogix for a customer, but I have a doubt about the version to install. I would like to install, now, the 6.2 because I tested the stability of this version, and after, the next summer, migrate to 7.2 (when I hope it will be stable too) My trouble is that I have many customizations to implement in my installation (e.g. add and modify forms, new tables and new procedures). Do you think the migration of customizations from 6.2 to 7.0 will be easy or it can create problems? I ask because last year I migrated an application whith many customizations from 5.0 to 6.2 and I had to rewrite many procedures, forms, and the DB structure was changed too. The alternative I have, is to install now the 7.0 and then migrate to 7.2, but: The 7.0 is stable? there are problems? and then, the migration from 7.0 to 7.2 will be easier than from 6.2?
Thank you.
P.S. If this is not the right forum, can you suggest me the appropriate? Alessandro Rossi. |

1. Their is no 7.0, it's 7.01
2. It's just as easy to go from 6.2 (upgrade to 6.2 SP6 Bundle FIRST!) to 7.01 as it is to go to 7.20
3. 7.20 fixes some mistakes in 7.01 (including the 3 hot fixes in 7.01)....especially, but not limited to, Activity and History module. If you are doing ANYTHING fancy in Activity you will want to (MUST) upgrade to 7.200
4. September timeframe or January 2008 certainly doable for 7.20 and what ever Service Pack/hot fixes have been released.....
Their was a huge leap of faith from 5.2.x to 6.x Revolutionary jump of technology....not so in 6.x or 7....more evolutionary.
7.2 is more of a redo (completely) on the Web stuff.....if you weren't doing the web stuff in 4, 5, 6, 7.01 then no biggie.....
We're taking all of our clients to 7.20 from 6.x or 5.x starting in September (going to 7.01 now.....meaning a 43 client install/upgrade last week for example).
