DirDlg.ocx - SLX 7.2
Posted: 16 Jan 08 5:39 PM
I am trying to implement a customisation on a 7.2 system that works in earlier versions (even up to 7.0.1). It relies on a custom control, DirDlg, which can be viewed in Architect by right-clicking in the Controls section, selecting customise and scrolling down to the 'Directory Dialog' item. This references a file DirDlg.ocx somewhere in C:\WINDOWS.
On a 7.2 system, this custom control is no longer available. So my customisation fails big time with 'cannot find reference' errors.
Does anyone know anything about this? Why was it removed and suggestions for what I can do to make my customisation work again?
Thanks very much
Phil

You might be able to redownload the control from here:

Thanks Rohan
I found that site and even downloaded the control. But then I wasn't sure exactly what was required - would I need to distribute the control separately (somehow) to all of the 7.2 clients to make it work? Would it also need to be registered on these machines? If so, I'd rather investigate using an alternative control that does the same job and does not require me to distribute it.

It looks like a wrapper for the
SHBrowseForFolder
function, which is a Windows Shell function.
You could probably call that function directly in your code, or write a common function to do so, as in this MS Knowledgebase article:
How To Select a Directory Without the Common Dialog Control
. I'm not really sure how components get redistributed, but I don't think there's a default wrapper in Windows or SLX.
As an alternative, you could probably adapt the regular Open File dialog to select directories.

Hi Phil.
If it is just a browse for folder dialog you're after I have what you need written up on SalesLogixBlog.com (and no distribution of anything is required)
