User can't change Contact name

fiogf49gjkf0d In our 6.2.1 implementation I have a user who cannot change the contact name on the contact detail screen. She makes a change, it shows on the screen, but disappears if you move to another contact and come back (e.g., the Save icon never becomes activated.) Everything works fine with the same user in our development system (problem is with the production system). The users and teams are the same in both systems. I've checked all the Administrator settings I can find. The only difference between production and development systems is that user is concurrent in development and a network user in production. Any clues would be more than welcome at this point. Thanks!

fiogf49gjkf0d This is just a stab in the dark. Check the user's Profile in Administrator. Go to the Security tab and look at the field security settings for Contacts (and the others as well). Make sure its set to Read/Write Default. |

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks. Yeah that was one of the first things I checked. Everything is Read/Write Default.
This is a real head-scratcher!

fiogf49gjkf0d Ok... Next stab... In Administrator | Teams. Next to the username for every team it shows the 'Field security of user on this team'. Make sure it is set to 'Read/Write Default'

fiogf49gjkf0d Yup. It's all Read/Write Default Even the user with Team Owner Profile is having the same problem.
I just tried our TEST system this morning (hoping that I could reproduce the problem) and it works fine too (as does DEV).
I'm starting to suspect the presence of poltergeists!

fiogf49gjkf0d Ok.. now its getting tricky... Hmmm...
Next up... In Administrator, select Field Security Levels from the Manage menu and check each security profile in question.
And if this isn't working. What if you tried changing their profile type in the team, save it (F5), then change it back and F5 it. Maybe there is something askew in the tables. Taking them out of one field security profile and then putting them back into their original should restore any missing records (if this is the case). If it doesn't do it at the team level, then try changing it at the user level under the Security tab.
Good luck! John G. |

fiogf49gjkf0d While I have not seen this exact problem I have had a user profile act up once in a while and have not been able to figure out why. My last resort is to create a new profile from scratch then do a territory alignment. |

fiogf49gjkf0d Solution: In Administrator, User Profile/Security/Contacts Change Default Field Security Profile to: Read Only Default then press F5 (User can now make changes) Change it back to Read/Write Default and press F5
Thanks John! Your last reply did the trick. I guess it's one of those idiosyncracies of SLX.
I appreciate all the help!

fiogf49gjkf0d If you haven't already, check out my reply to John (not sure if replies go to everyone that's involved).
We've had some mysterious things happen that were "fixed" by deleting the user's records in USEROPTIONS. Not sure if it'll help in the situations you've had, but it might be worth a try.

fiogf49gjkf0d Excellent! Glad to hear that worked. I guess I'll call it a day and go home for the weekend!
I don't know how things like that happen but thats a trick I've used on occassions when something says it should work but doesn't. Change it to something else, save it and then change it back and save again.
Have a good one! John G.
