I am looking to install than one remote database on my computer (I support multiple SalesLogix implementations) and I was wondering if this is possible. Every time I try to attach a new remote DB it writes over my old one even if I rename it after I attach it, does anyone have any experience with this? I'm also on version 5.2.

Thanks!

You don't have to use the AttachRemote utility to attach a remote database. You can do it all manually, after all, it is just performing SQL commands that you yourself can execute and provide your own names for things.

However, a simple route to take is to use the "\admin" switch with the AttachRemote utility. This will allow you to type in your own value for the database name avoiding overwriting an existing database.

Although, beware, you can't have a full remote environment on your machine - as the paths are hardcoded for sync purposes. You can, as Ryan says, attach the DB but you shouldn't attempt to sync multiple remotes.

Of course, that should have said "... multiple full remotes...."

Beware with the \admin switch. It attaches the DB from wherever you specify it, so if you're anal like me and want all of this in the Microsoft SQL Server\Data\ directory then you're going to have to move it there first.

I believe without the admin switch it tries to copy the file there, but that may be ONLY for 6.2. For a long time I simply copied the files over and ran the utility even though a batch script using the osql.exe commands would have worked just as easily.

That is the way I do it too. Honestly, I can't say I have ever used the Attach Remote utility.

You are correct on both counts.

I use AttachRemote with the \admin switch all the time. It works great. BTW, you can also detach an existing database first if needed.
