SLX 5.2 - Public Templates
Posted: 15 Dec 11 11:22 AM

fiogf49gjkf0d I have inheritied a SLX 5.2 system and I need to make some changes to the public templates.
When connected as the admin user, selecting write/templates from the dropdown menu's, I can see the template I need to change but the edit option is disabled. I can also see within the private templates others with the same name (but without the owner's name appended) - Are they actually the same? - i.e If I edit the private one as admin it is actually changing the public version?
I found some documentation for SLX V6 that suggests the change should be made using the Architect application. But as admin, in Architect, selecting manage plugins and changing to Templates gives me a list but no edit facility.
Sorry for sounding sketchy, but I am learning this as I go along!
Help!

fiogf49gjkf0d What are we talking about here, MS Word 2000 Mail Merge Templates? And you have Office 2000 installed on this machine?
Have you upgrade to 5.2.6 yet (recalling the absolute horror of 5.20-5.23....5.24 was stable, 5.25 lasted, what, a week, and 5.26 is the cat's meow). |

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks for coming back to me.
They are mail merge templates, and the ones that I can edit open in the inbuilt editor, so I am assuming they are RTF files. It had not occurred to me that I may need Office 2000 on the machine, but I can easily add that tomorrow to see if that makes a difference.
We are running 5.2.0.2539 but are in the process of migrating to 7.5. However, I need to make an amendment to the existing installation to keep us going for now.
Can you advice me on where the editing should take place, in the client using Write/Templates or in the Architect? |

You will need to make these changes in Architect. Or, you can make a copy of them (from public to private) and then use Architect to delete the original. They are Word docs (not RTF files). You will definitely need Word on the machine - which is why it's grayed out currently.

fiogf49gjkf0d Glad Mike and I could help.....we've probably seen the same error a hundred times each.....kind of like trying to edit Crystal Reports in SLX and not having Crystal installed on the machine you're trying to edit upon.... |

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks both, but it looks like I am not out of the woods yet! (Amateur mistake not having Office installed!)
I have installed Office 2000. In the client, if I set the Word Processor to Microsoft Word in Tools\Options\System - Then go into Write\Templates, I get a slightly different looking dialog and the edit button is available. If I try and edit though, I get "Public Templates Cannot be Editied". However, the list of templates that appears is different and does not contain the ones I need to change! Can I therefore assume the ones I am trying to edit are in fact RTF files?
Regardless of the Word Processor setting, using Architech I cannot find an option anyware to edit the files? - From your post Mike, Architect is where I should be and I can see the files but I'm lost on where to edit them.
Can either of you provide any further assistance on this?

fiogf49gjkf0d Correct. Architect is where you need to be. On the same machine (that you just installed Office on) open Architect (or install it) and then login as Admin. Select the Templates plugin and you can open from there. They are {still} not RTF files |

fiogf49gjkf0d Hi Mile,
I've launched Architect, logged in as Admin, manage plugins, changed the Plug Type to “Templates, SalesLogix”. I now have a list of documents including the ones I need to change. It must be me being thick (yes, thicker than not having Office installed&hellip, but the only option I have is a double click that displays a properties dialog with two tabs General and Security. But no Edit!
If I set the Plugin Type to “Templates, MS Word” I get the same results. |

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks for your assistance Mike.
So, to finish this thread for any other poor unfortunate souls.
These templates are edited in Architect, you need Office installing, and after selecting the appropriate template, click the OPEN button! A competent IT professional would also be an advantage...... |
