Tab order and other things...

I have created a .NET extension that I'm putting on a form that is the detail area of a main view. Is it normal for the tab key to get consumed by SalesLogix and not my user control? If I have focus on a text box in my user control and press tab, the focus goes to the tab view instead of the next text box on my user control. Is this normal or am I missing something somewhere?
Also, is there a way to trigger the "save" icon on the toolbar to become enabled?
TIA - it seems I've been asking a LOT more lately than answering - probably due to the fact the old school web client is dying...(not that that's a bad thing!).
