I was reading up on the MS Interop Forms Toolkit, which basically provides you will a VS addin to generate COM wrappers around forms and UserControls built in VB.NET 2005 so you can use them in VB6 projects.

See http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbasic/bb419144.aspx
Also http://blogs.msdn.com/vbteam/archive/2007/05/02/just-released-interop-forms-toolkit-2-0.aspx

It does spark some ideas of the possibilities of using this with SLX. It would be really great to be able to just add a .NET UserControl to the toolbox in Architect and drop it on a form, without the need to do all the SetParent Win32API stuff. Only supports VB.NET (I'm a C# guy) so I haven't tried it yet, but I think I will to see about rewriting the generated wrapper classes to C# if it will work the way I am hoping with SLX.

Anyone played with this yet?

I have not played with it yet, but I too am a C# guy. I just happen to be writing code in VB2005 because that is what is required by my current client. I think the difficulty with rewriting this in C# would be backward compatibility with VB6. VB.NET and VB2005 both invoke the VisualBasic.CompilerServices when necessary to automatically support some of the old VB6 coding practices.

I've never tried to call the VisualBasic.CompilerServices explicitly.

Interesting piece Ryan.
As you know, I'm a strong advocate for VB.NET (not c# so this will be very handy!

I'm very interested in how well this works with SLX (specifically using .NET UserControls in SLX). If you give it a try then let us know!
