Strange problem with slxoledb.dllYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I have a strange problem. The system is buzz when user registers library slxoledb.dll (version 6.2.5). The system is also buzz when slxclient starts and progressbar show "creating data access". This problem is not occured in version 7.2/6.2.0/6.2.1

User use Windows XP SP2/2000 SP4

Any suggestions?

What does 'buzz' mean? Is it an error message? Is there an error message - what is it?

Do the users have rights to modify the registry?

Busy? Hmmm.. Maybe.

An interesting observation is that its happening in 6.2.5 and not in versions 6.2.0 6.2.1 which are before. And its not happening in 7.2 either which is after the version with the issue. I would expect a little consistency. Like it not working in the 6.x.x version and then working in the 7.x version.

Does anyone know of any issues with the 6.2.5 oledb provider?

I mean that system and slxclient are not responding. I use 2 ways: terminate application in Windows Task Manager or wait for some time (6-7 min)

User have rights of administrators group.

p.s. sorry for my english

Have you tried running the SLXProfiler? This might supply a clue what might be happened.

Yes. I did. But slxclient and slxprofiler freeze when they initialize connection. Slxclient freeze before login form is open. And slxprofiler freeze before select form is open.

p.s. freeze - I mean that system is not responding

Have you tried 6.2.6 (this has the fixes for DST and you should be running that anyway !)

Suggest you try checking connectivity - make sure all SQL pieces are installed/re-installed - also try without NT authentication (/BYPASSNTLOGIN) to see if it's a domain issue etc.

With option (/BYPASSNTLOGIN) login form show very fast. But when you click OK button SLXClient freeze.
When you run regsvr32 slxolebd.dll or SLXDBEngine.dll system is freeze for 5-6 minutes. Then program show message that dll register succeeded.

Is this specific to one workstation - or many ? The regsvr ? Don't know why this would be but certainly seems odd and [hopefully] PC specific.

Vladimir,

A couple of things to look at (if you haven't already):

Can you ping both the DB server and the SLX server from your client?
Is your slxservice account/user an admin on your server?
Does your SLXService account have all of the local permissions granted?
Are there any errors thrown to the event log?
Are there any errors thrown to your SQL?
Do you have proper folder permissions for your SLX users?
Are there any firewalls?
Are the clients and Servers in the same domain?

Hopefully one of these may point you towards your problem area.

Hmm... seems all the bases have been covered. A few stab in the darks questions...

Is DNS running fine?

Has DNS or anything else on the network changed recently?

Anything on these workstations that are specific to these workstations that is not on workstations that actually work?

Do the workstation network connection(s) have the proper DNS configured, etc?

Are there multiple network cards in these workstations?

DNS is work fine. I think network is not reason why this problem is occure.

I created an *.udl file (test.udl). Double click open a Data Link Properties form. In tab Provider I select SalesLogix OLE DB provider. Then I click Next button and system freeze. There are no new connections in netstat. There are no processes using CPU in Processes tab of Windows Task Manager. I never see this problem for my 2,5 years work with slx

Vladimir,

Sounds like you are being blocked - Especially If: "There are no new connections in netstat."

There is a great tool from SysInternals (now MS owned) called 'filemon'. I feel confident that running this tool on the client machine, while trying to log into SLX, will tell you where you are denied.
