SLX OLEDB provider information needed
Posted: 14 May 08 8:57 PM

We are looking to integrate SharePoint with SLX using the SLX OLEDB provider however, we only have a production version of SharePoint.
I have seen posts that the SLX OLEDB provider is just an OLEDB provider that does not modify MDAC, but I need more information on exactly what is installed and modified to ease concerns of our infrastructure team. The document on Sage's site simply is an install select next, next, next, finish type document.
Does anyone have this detail of information on the SLX OLEDB provider?
Thanks.

Hi Greg,
The OLEDB Provider is just that, an OLEDB Provider. Not any different than *any* OLEDB Provider really. It does not modify MDAC or conflict in any way. Are there specific concerns that they have?

Ryan,
The concern is simply that this is a SharePoint production server and they fear anything being installed that could posibly bring down the server, halt SharePoint, or SQL. I was hoping to provide some standard documentation to ease their concern.

I'm afraid you will not find what you are looking for since it does not exist.
There is a "white paper" on some of it's "features" that is a few years old. However, teh data that is in it can also be obtained from help file(s).
Like Ryan says.. it's "just a provider".. and the only way it will "harm" their sharepoint services is if someone writes stupid or bad code... and we know nobody does that -- RJLedger - rjlSystems "...Customer First..." |
