SQL NVarChar translation in SLX
Posted: 20 May 08 10:34 AM
In the SLX database I have table views pointing to a SQL database. Several of the fields in the SQL database are defined as nvarchar, however SLX either treats these as blobs (in the query builder interface) or undefined (the SLX DB manager shows them with N\A data type). How can I get SLX to recognize\define these are string fields? Why does SLX not support commonly used SQL data types if we're using SQL databases?

1) Because of old Delphi code, originally written for Interbase & BDE
2) Because of it's need to support multiple database platforms (supports Oracle as well)
I think it is mostly #1

Does this mean I can't get SLX to recognize\define nvarchar SQL fields as SLX string fields?

If it's not it's not. I don't think there is going to be any way to change this (but I've never looked into it either).

Ok. How about support for foreign language characters in SLX. My understanding is that SLX supports foreign characters by allowing for 2-byte characters in our slx string fields. However in version 7.2.2 I can paste foreign language characters and some (like Korean), get displayed as ??? signs. What am I missing?
