Hi,

We are currently running SLX 6.01... (upgrading soon!!) and once in awhile we have a problem with the SLX application server's SLX OLEDB provider losing the connection to the network (or something is causing it to stop working). We are running nightly Scribe jobs to pull data in from MAS90, and if this connection isn't working, the Scribe jobs fail.

This morning I restarted the service on the SLX application server (which is also where Scribe is running). Then I noticed in the properties of the service, under Recovery, that the First, Second & Subsequent failures were set up to 'Take No Action'. I changed each of these to 'Restart the Service' in hopes this would get the connection going again and the night jobs would run as scheduled.

Any thoughts or comments on doing this?

Thanks for any help!!

While this might work in the short term it is a band-aid. The real issue is what is causing the connection to drop. Since all the data going to and from the database flows through this connection I would focus on correcting the situation.

How often does this happen? Have you looked at the Windows Event Logs? If the database is on a different system you should check it's Event Logs also.

Thanks for the reply Frank. I have been told this particular version of SLX was prone to network connectivity problems. I'm hoping once we are on the new version of Saleslogix that this type of problem is resolved. I will check the event logs on both servers and see if I can find anything out there.

Thanks again!

I've had several customers on this version (6.1) that experienced the same issues exactly. The problem was compounded by the nightly imports that would run on their server using the SLX provider as well. We basically did the same thing you are considering, causing the SLX provider to restart after or before each nightly import and IIRC that helped their issues.

The fact is that the 6.1 and prior versions of the provider just were not all that stable. The 6.2 provider is leaps and bounds better (by far) and you won't see these kinds of issues when you upgrade.

Edit: I mentioned 6.1, but this problem does happen on versions 6.0 to 6.1. For version 6.2 SLX introduced a complete rewrite of the provider and things are much better.
