When SalesLogix is initially installed, what are the default values for DataSource and InitialCatalog? Is there a procedure that can get these values for any computer that is used?

Just let me know if more details are needed.

Thanks in advance!
Lou

Take a look here: http://www.slxdeveloper.com/page.aspx?action=viewarticle&articleid=55

"Data Source" specifies the host name or IP address of the SalesLogix Server.

"Initial Catalog" is a valid alias/connection that has been configured in the Connection Manager on the SalesLogix Server.

Thanks for the speedy reply, Ryan!

I had already reviewed that same document. Getting these values is no problem on the local network. I need to know how to get these values when they are unknown.

Thanks!

There is no way to get them if they are unknown (without asking the user) since there could be several SLX servers on a network, and each could have several connections defined on them.

You can create a login screen and present the possible servers and connections a user could choose from. For this info see here: http://www.slxdeveloper.com/page.aspx?action=viewarticle&articleid=57

Is that what you are after?

If you have a scenario where the SLX client will be running you can use COM to get the connection details (but the client *must* be running to do so). For an example of this look here: http://saleslogixblog.com/rfarley/archive/2005/05/25/2856.aspx

What about the default values for the connection to the EVAL database? No tricks to get that?

Wait...I think found what I needed in the link for building login screens. Thanks, Ryan!

No. Like I said, there could possibly be several SLX servers on a network. Which one should it give you? Any of those SLX servers may or may not have an eval, and the database might not even be named eval.

What exactly are you after? What's the scenario of what you're trying to accomplish? Maybe there is some other route I could offer you.

I thought there may be a default location when SalesLogix is installed. I used EVAL as an example. It makes sense, though that there could be several different servers and aliases. The link you gave me to the documentation for building a login screen was VERY helpful. It identified the stored procedures for listing the available servers and aliases.

Thanks!
