Project/Implementation Management
Posted: 06 Mar 08 8:24 AM
Ok here is what we are looking at. Basically a new top level mainview. We like the SalesProcess functionality and customization and would probably be cool with copying the out of the box opportunity system and just modify it for this use, but we are using opportunities for sales.
My question;
Can the Opportunity Sales Process system be hacked to allow for two distinct usages and connected to different main views?
Or
Is there a 3rd party project/implementation management system on the market for SLX?
We are currently on 6.2 but are quickly moving towards 7.2.

you could still use Opportunities, but create a separate mainview for the project/implementation management screens. Then filter out the projects based on opportunity type. (i.e. the sales stuff gets displayed in the standard opp main view, the project stuff is displayed in the project implementation main view. You can even set code that if you come across a different typed record you can automatically forward to the appropriate mainview.
Then you can use the sales processes as you see fit, appropriately.
I've done this before for clients with disparate needs and multiple business segments for opportunities.
