Hello,

I am doing a VB.NET application, working in a slx database but the application is not launched from saleslogix. I would like to know if there is a way to:
1)get an user password (not encrypted) having the user name
or
2)validate a password having both user name and password.

I think this is possible from slx as i can get the password from the password properties of the connection string. But not sure if it can be done from outside by decrypting or getting the password using a particular library provided by sage.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

There is no way to directly read the users credentials with password from SLX. You can either

Prompt the user for user/password as described in this article http://www.slxdeveloper.com/page.aspx?action=viewarticle&articleid=57
or use the SLX COM layer to have a script return the connection string as described here: http://customerfx.com/pages/crmdeveloper/2005/05/25/2856.aspx

Route #2 will require that SLX is running at the time your app is launched. If that is not possible then your only option is route #1 (which isn't that bad, you could save the values, encrypted, somewhere and reuse them each time, only reprompt for login if the saved values fail)
