Permission Denied error when running web reports. Web reports run fine when running from the Web Host. Any other machine, Permission Denied Error. Any help will be appreciated.

Ingrid,

Do the other computers have the web reporting server added to the list of trusted sites in IE? Do the users have permission to download and install ActiveX controls?

Were the ActiveX controls installed on the client computers using their user ID?

Yes. But the user is part of the local admin group.

When we install them, we need to change local intranet settings to Initialize and scripts ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Enable, add the web server http to our Trusted sites, and change Privacy settings to add the web server to allow pop-ups.

I have checked all settings...even logged in as local admin...added the Web Host & Web Reporting server as trusted sites. Everything else works except for running reports. I am able to see the Report Manager, but when running the selected report, I get the error.

Hi Ingrid,

For the trusted sites security level enable everything. I think its one of the rights in Internet Explorer. Its definately a browser config thing ive seen it quite a few times.

Thanks

Questions:

When running from the Web Host, do you use the same Network(Windows) User as when running from the Clients? If not, what happens if you use the same Network(Windows) User from the Client?
If you are already using the same credentials then there shouldn't be any ACL issues, if using the same credentials fixes the issue, then you might indeed have ACL issues at the file level.

Port questions, and I do not know the answer for this but, are there other ports that are required to Execute Reports? I also found a report on certain file types that are used by Crystal when sending the report to the client. If you have a firewall/proxy that may filter those extensions it could generate a similar issue.

Have you researched on Crystal's site? www.businessobjects.com I found several articles with similar issues that might be applicable:

To isolate security, I have been using the same network user on all machines. Again, success when running from the Web Host Server and Web Reporting Server.

No port blocking or filtering by the firewall.

Thanks for the article, I followed all recommendations and still no resolution.

I am able to view the report if I type the report url directly on the browser. Ex...http:\\webreportingserver:1026\slxwebrpt\run\reportname.rpt

I think the issue is with writing the report...but I've checked File Security and even gave Everyone Full Access. I am stuck!

How about an HTTP capture once you click on the Report to see what the client is sending to the server and/or what it is receiving.

Unless you are more experienced with Network sniffers, I would suggest you find a simple tool that may even integrate into IE. I found the following one on google, but have not tried it myself: http://www.httpwatch.com/

I on the other hand typically utilize MS Netmon as I am quite experienced with it.

In general, what I was thinking is that you would set it up, click on the Report link and see what request was sent out to the server.
Then paste the direct URL and see what gets sent to the server.
