I am currently spec'ing out recreating a heavily customized SLX system (6.2) in the web client. I am concerned some mods may not be possible in the web client. Is there a white paper or document outlining the differences in the web and network clients? Thanks

Not that im aware of. Generally you can do much of what you can do in the lan client, just takes at least twice as long.....

Good Luck, I'm in the middle of the same and I'm hitting a few road blocks and SDK Support@Sage is not very helpful on web customizations.

Steve,

The information you seek is inside of the SalesLogix (?Launch?) document. But here is a paraphrased excerpt: (Anything that starts with "Note" is my personal comments)

Web Client limitations

  • Right mouse click access and "hot key" shortcuts to functions
  • Intellisync capabilities for synchronization of Contacts and Calendar items to Outlook, Palm, or PocketPC (several 3rd party solutions exist for this capability)
  • Activity Notepad View Note: Customizable
  • User-defined middle pane or "favorite tab”
  • Offline access (the Web Client must be connected to the Internet to view data)
  • Some functions usually performed by an administrator are only found in the Windows Client: Note: Items generally reserved for power users.
  • Manage screens (Manage Picklists, Competitors, Resources, Literature, etc.) Note: Do you allow end users this access? Generally handled by Admin via WGAdmin or Architect
  • Maintenance screens (Merge Records, Check for Duplicates, Replace Data, etc.) Note: Items generally reserved for power users.
  • Literature Fulfillment center (Lit Requests can still be scheduled in the Web Client)
  • Contact Process administration and triggering (Processes can still be assigned in the Web Client) Note: You can also put up macros or back end processes to handle this limitation
  • Campaign Management administration

I am afraid SDK Support@Sage id not very helpful on anything. That is why I dropped it. I too am fighting with adding our thick client customizations to the thin client. The real headache is all the code behind. Some do not lend themselves for direct translations so you have to rethink your approach. But it is doable. Just slow work.
