I'm not sure about this one - my boss's wife came in and saw that we were doing some SLX programming in .NET and wants to know if doing the programming in .NET will keep all the integrity and security that SLX has. Ex. - Will I be able to know who's logged in and when one of the salesmen sync SLX to the db, if we made changes to the db through the ASP.NET pages - will it sync to the salesmen? Is it possible to do this? Also, is it possible to access the SLX cookie in .NET? I am using VS 2005.

Corey,

I'm only responding to the parts that I can actually answer.

As for security, yes, it will apply all the necessary ownership & security rules for queries and it will also ensure that changes made to the host DB will sync if, and only if, you are using the SalesLogix OLEDB provider for your data access. The caveat is to make sure that you either a) use the appropriate username and password for each user, or b) use the impersonation feature of the provider. See Ryan's article at http://www.slxdeveloper.com/page.aspx?id=35&articleid=55 - it has a bit on impersonation.

I don't know about if it will show the user as logged in as admin. As for accessing the SalesLogix cookie, I doubt you'd be able to get anything useful from it. Is there an alternative way to get the info you need to your .NET app? If so, you can get it that way and then have your own cookie.

And please tell me the boss' wife has some knowledge of what she's talking about and that she doesn't just come around to "see whats going on".

Jeff

Corey,

As to the synching part of your question:

As long as you are using the SLX OLEDB for your connection; all data input ot changed will sync to your remotes.

I'd like to thank both of ya'll for the responses - both were very useful.

Jeff - don't worry, my boss's wife has some knowledge of what she's talking about.
