No offense, but who would want to run the 7.2 web? It's the ugliest thing I've ever seen. There, I've said it.

Despite all it's cool technology (it's finally modern!), I have to say that the UI is horrible - I'd argue the 6.2.x *looks* nicer. The icons are bad - the "Contacts" icon is almost as creepy as the Burger King king and Quaker Oats guy (well, maybe not *that* bad) and the edges on the round expander arrows are really rough - it's almost not round; I can see jagged edges on it. And the colors are just awful. There's the really nice looking logon screen with the Sage green and then you get this ugly blue-grayish color for your main window. Thank goodness for style sheets.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with where it's at technology wise: .NET based, much more flexible as far as customizations, more open, etc. And I really look forward to future versions when you can write once and deploy to the LAN and web, but I really hope they do something with the UI. For all the moves forward with technology, the UI (IMHO) has moved backwards. I'd go as far as to say it's almost competitive disadvantage.

Or is it just me?

Jeff

Is it based on themes and skins? then probably someone(with some artistic capability) can come up with a new theme which can be applied in there so to make it look better.

I do have to agree that it is ugly Jeff. I don't care too much for it, but I do know there are many that do like the look of the UI. I've heard some comments that the new look gives is some cheap, unprofessional, open-source look (not that open source as a rule looks bad, it just often has budget constraints where a designer is not involved for the graphic eye-candy or for purchasing commercial icons, etc).

All that of course is easily changed with the stylesheets, but it's too bad that the UI looks so bad OOTB.

However, I'm really fine with the look of it - I don't like it, but I can live with it. The focus for this release was the platform, UI was really an afterthought. From here, now that there is a solid platform the UI can, and will, become a focus as things move forward. Already in SP1 that is entering beta very soon, we are getting right mouse click menus etc.

We should put a site together for SLX Web "skins" where we can sell/share/etc facelifts for SLX

The right click menus will be nice - I love web apps that make use of them. And while I understand that UI was an afterthought, I'm not so sure it should have been *that* much of an afterthought. :p

Maybe I'm just jealous that others have gotten to get into it and dig around a bit - no time for me. I've been busy working on some MSCRM and .NET apps that hit SLX externally. At least I'm getting some of the .NET goodness myself - just not through SLX.

Jeff

P.S. - Post #200! Woo-hoo!

I agree that it is ugly. The icons are ridiculous.

I guess on the positive side at least it looks slightly less cartoony than legacy web!

That it is. Faster and *much* easier to modify

Not sure I agree with *much* easier to modify having spent nearly the whole day trying to make a field mandatory (and still not quite there!)

Oh come on Nick :P. Hehe. Sure the new web has some issues with things here and there that don't work right. It is essentially a 1.0 version after all. Let's compare adding new fields to a screen in new web vs. old web, creating new screens, adding tabs, adding menu/nav items, creating a whole new mainview.

*Much* easier. Hehe.

If that was a tease, you are a cruel, cruel man.
I'd probably modify the master pages to dump the middle pane, and move/replace the left navigation bar. These are both great in desktop applications, but they eat so much screen real-estate.
