Install ProblemYour last visit to this thread was on 1/1/1970 12:00:00 AM

I am attempting the install of the SLX 7.2 web client. I am close but seem to missing something - I have been over the install pdf many times..

The first thing that is suspect is that the only entries under the SalesLogix website in IIS are MMServer and SLXClient.

When I 'Open Portal' From the App Arch. I get the following:

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Line 19:
Line 20:
Line 21:
Line 22: <forms loginUrl="Login.aspx" protection="All" timeout="30" name=".SLXAUTH" path="/" defaultUrl="default.aspx" requireSSL="false" slidingExpiration="true" cookieless="UseDeviceProfile" enableCrossAppRedirects="true"/>
Line 23:

Source File: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\slxclient\web.config Line: 21

I am sure I am missing a step but cannot figure it out so far.. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hi Steve,

I am assuming that you've built the web platform and deployed, all without issue, right?

In IIS, expand the website and then right-click the SlxClient folder. On the Directory tab, click the "Create" button to make the dir an application. Also, ensure the ASP.NET tab has .NET 2.0 selected.

Does that help?

Ryan,
Yes I have built the web platform and deployed - althougth I can't find good documentation on the correct chain of events. Both tasks finish without error. The application already exists - I deleted and recreated.. IISRESET and problem persists..

Have you ensured that the SlxClient dir (or whatever deployment dir) has been created as an application in IIS (see prior post)?

I believe so - I right clicked on SLXClient in IIS (under SalesLogix website)/Properties/Virtual Directory - then under application settings SLXClient is in the application name box. This is what I referred to deleteing and recreating in my last post.

Do I need to install any bundles? I seem to recall needing to install .zip bundle in the beta version.. I am probably missing something simple.. thanks

If this is an existing or upgraded database then yes, you'll need to add the VFS zip bundle in AA.

Ok, just spoke with my coworker who installed the rest of 7.2. He installed 7.0 by mistake, delete DB's from SQL Server, unistalled SLX 7.0 from add/remove programs and installed the 7.2 db. I have installed the Sage SalesLogix v7.2 VFS for Upgrades.zip on apparently a 7.2 db.. My results have been the same before and after the bundle.. Don't know if that helps at all.. Have we mangled the registry? It seems like a much simpler problem but obviously I don't know exactly what is causing the error about a directory not being configured as and application .

What should I see in IIS under the 'SalesLogix' website I created on install of the web host? I have two 'applications' - mmserver and slxclient. Also what about the application pools - I have Root (appeared after bundle I beleive), mmserver and slxclient.

What I don't have is the 'scripts' virtual directory referred to on pg. 35 of the web impl. guide [item 3 below]:
To shut down and unload the Slxweb.dll (Windows 2003 Server)
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet
Services Manager.
The IIS snap-in appears in the Microsoft Management Console.
2. In the Internet Information Services folder, expand the Web Host computer, expand
Web Sites, and then expand your Web site (by default this is SalesLogix).
3. Right-click the Scripts virtual directory, and then click Properties.
4. On the Virtual Directory tab, click Unload.
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.
6. Close IIS.

I am wondering at which step should the 'scripts' virtual directory get created as referred to above..

Also, Do I need to install the web manager for 7.2?
Any input appreciated. Thanks

Based on all the problems you are having I'd suggest you invest in the on-line course at Sage University for the (v72) web engineer course. It will give you a solid platform on how to install and do basic stuff in the new technology.

In fact I suggest this on-line course to anyone who is interested in learning the basics of v72. Side effect is that you can (on-line) test and get your web engineer's certification too. Once you have done that you might consider the web developer's classroom course as well.

For just a few hours (and a few $$$) you will have the basics down pat. Oh yes, there's a download of a course manual that goes with it!

SLX Web 7.2 is up and running. It was a simple problem - I needed to add the port to the deployment path. I ripped out and reinstalled the web host for good measure and added the port - BAM! web client is alive.

I was not aware I could get 7.2 certified online - that is good to know. I must admit, I have a much better understanding of the deployment process and mechanics now. I look forward to appropriating the time to take the dev class also.

Great!

You only get PART of the web cert.. there are two certs:
Web Engineer - Sell/Install/Config
Web Developer - Customize....

Rj, I cannot find any online web classes at Sage University.. Is that where the SLX Web admin cert. is supposedly offered? The only class I see regarding 7.2 web is the instructor led Dev class. Thanks
