I have a custom form in the Customer portal. When the user enters an email address I need to verify that it matches an email for one of the contacts associated with the account the logged in user belongs to.

I could do this in my sleep in the LAN, but I am struggling a bit in the new environment. I am working on the smartpart in Visual Studio and struggling for two reasons.. I am just learning C# and my VS/.net skills are pretty mediocre. Both soon to improve apparently. I am a little disappointed on how limited the AA is for design work.

First of all, when do I fire the code? The only TextBox event in VS that would seem approproate is the textchanged event - Does this fire whenever a new character is typed like the SLX Lan?

Next I am wondering if I need to make an OLEDB connection in my smart part when the TextChanged event is fired, fill a dataset and compare email address for the contacts to the entered value or if there is an alternative way to avoid the extra db call or just a better way.. or any advise the advanced kids on the forum might have.

Thanks
